Two-time RuPaul's Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon will join Broadway's Oh, Mary! later this summer, following her current gig in Roundabout Theatre Company's Pirates! The Penzance Musical. The former Little Shop of Horrors and Broadway Chicago star revealed the news on Today June 18.

Monsoon's limited engagement will run August 4-September 27, succeeding Tituss Burgess. 2025 Tony-winning star and writer Cole Escola is currently starring through June 21, with Burgess set to begin a six-week encore engagement June 23. The multi-extended run is currently scheduled to continue through January 4, 2026 at the Lyceum Theatre.

"Now—I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Cole Escola is the funniest person alive,â€ says Monsoon in a statement. “Oh, Mary! is one of the best, funniest, most energizing things I’ve seen in my life. To be invited to live in this playground for a time is not only an honor and a privilege, but a lovely chance to showcase the writing talents of one friend, the directorial talents of another, and everything else that comes with this singular production. Happy to trade in one pair of bloomers for another.â€

Escola, Tony-nominated as a playwright with the work's Best Play nomination and a Tony winner for their starring role as Mary Todd Lincoln, is currently sharing the stage with fellow original cast members Conrad Ricamora as Mary's Husband, James Scully as Mary's Teacher, Bianca Leigh as Mary's Chaperone, and Tony Macht as Mary's Husband's Assistant. Ricamora, Scullt, Leigh, and Macht will remain with the production through August 2, with casting for Monsoon's stint to be announced.

Opening night was July 11, 2024, following a multi-extended and sold-out Off-Broadway run at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Read the reviews for the Broadway bow here.

Oh, Mary! centers on famous First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. In Escola's demented take (or as press notes put it, "through the lens of an idiot"), Mary Todd becomes a madcap, cabaret-obsessed alcoholic.

The piece premiered at Off-Broadway's Lucille Lortel Theatre in 2024 in a run that was extended three times. The production earned two 2024 Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Outstanding New American Play and Lead Performer in an Off-Broadway play, both for Escola. The show also won the 2024 Off Broadway Alliance Award for Best New Play.
