Produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The critically acclaimed production received its world premiere in July 2016 at the Palace Theatre in London. Since its premiere, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has won 24 major British theatre awards including the Evening Standard Best Play Award as well as a record-breaking nine Olivier Awards 鈥� the most awarded production in the history of the Oliviers. The Broadway production has subsequently won 25 major Broadway accolades, including five Drama Desk awards, six Outer Critics Circle awards and six Tony awards.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Assistant Carpenter/Deck Carpenter is responsible for assisting in the load in and load out of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, as well as running the stage left carpentry show track during performances. They are responsible for attaching or 鈥渃lipping in鈥� performers onto fly wires for performer flying effects. They are also responsible for overseeing the local carpentry crew performance tracks on stage left. The deck carpenter will communicate with performers and stage managers to ensure a clean performance for all departments. Touring a live theater production is a unique and fast paced environment. You must be able to handle stressful situations and find solutions to problems quickly. The successful candidate for this position will have experience loading shows in and out, have knowledge of theatrical rigging systems, and will be a self-starter.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

鈥� Load In / Out show at each venue at the highest level possible, conducting tasks in a safe manner while trying to stay on the schedule set by the Head Carpenter.

鈥� Regularly running an intensive deck track.

鈥� Operating of storage chain motors to move deck units in and out throughout the show.

鈥� Communicating with the FOY System operator for clipping in performers and bringing them to preset trims.

鈥� Operation of show equipment in a safe and repeatable manner.

鈥� Regular participation in work calls, and rehearsal as directed by stage management and head carpenter.

鈥� Arrival on time and ready for work at the start of each call.

鈥� Regular communication both in person and over headset with Stage Management and other crew personnel during performances.

鈥� Regular communication of issues with Head Carpenter, Production Management, and Shop Personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED SKILLS

鈥� Extensive Scenic carpentry experience. Including: woodworking, metalworking, basic mechanics, fabric repairs, etc.

鈥� Extensive chain motor operation, maintenance, and repair experience.

鈥� Understanding of scenic drawing, specifically hanging plan as well as ability to decipher necessary rigging paperwork provided by Head Carpenter.

鈥� Extensive theatrical rigging knowledge including counterweight set operation and maintenance. Experience with single and double purchase systems as well as familiarity with automated systems.

鈥� Ability to maintain composure under pressure.

鈥� Ability to quickly assess a problem and communicate issues in a clear and concise manner.

鈥� Responsive to Management queries and direction, including during performances as issues arise.

PREFERRED SKILLS

鈥� Min 1 years鈥� experience working on an IATSE Full Pink Contract.

鈥� Min 2 years鈥� experience on a touring show.

鈥� Knowledge of or experience in several road venues throughout the country.

鈥� Knowledge of or experience with performing flying, including clipping harnesses into fly wires.

SALARY & BENEFITS

$2,600/week; Overtime per IATSE Full Pink Contract. Benefits Per IATSE Full Pink Contract
