Job Title: Lighting Engineer
Project: Touring Magic Production (Non-Union)
Tour Dates: October 2025 (3-4 Weeks)
Tour Locations: Midwest U.S., Northeast U.S., and Canada
Employment Type: Contract / Freelance
Compensation: Competitive (ranging between $1600 and $2000 per week DOE) plus travel, lodging, and per diem.

Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Lighting Engineer to join our non-union touring magic production for a 3-week run in October 2025. This high-impact show features stage illusions, dynamic movement, projection effects, and immersive stage design. The Lighting Engineer will be responsible for executing the lighting design, maintaining consistency across diverse venues, and collaborating with the artistic and technical teams to enhance the show's visual storytelling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and manage the lighting console during all performances and rehearsals
  • Adapt and implement pre-established lighting plots to accommodate different venue specs
  • Load in, focus, troubleshoot, and strike lighting systems at each location
  • Collaborate with the Artistic Director to ensure lighting supports the pacing and mood of each illusion and scene
  • Coordinate lighting with projection cues and assist with basic projector setup and operation when needed
  • Maintain lighting equipment and ensure all gear is properly packed, transported, and cared for throughout the tour
  • Work with venue crews as needed for setup and compliance
  • Ensure safety standards are followed at all times
  • Play video cues on projection screen

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in theatrical lighting, preferably in touring or mobile productions
  • Proficiency with lighting consoles (ETC, GrandMA, or similar), DMX systems, and LED fixtures
  • Familiarity with projector operation, video playback cueing, and integrating projections into a live performance
  • Ability to adapt setups for varying venue sizes, throw distances, and lighting conditions
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills under pressure
  • Comfortable adapting lighting plots, consoles and cues for varying venue sizes and layouts
  • Experience working in fast-paced, collaborative environments
  • Must be physically able to lift and move equipment
  • Valid passport and ability to travel across the U.S. and Canada

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior work on magic or specialty shows involving precise cue timing
  • Understanding with integrating lighting with sound, projection, and stage effects
  • Knowledge of both conventional and intelligent lighting instruments
