Kansas City Repertory Theatre, led by Artistic Director Stuart Carden and Executive Director Jeremy Dewey, is a vibrant regional theater with a 60-year legacy of artistic excellence. As the professional theatre in residence at the University of Missouri鈥揔ansas City (UMKC), KCRep is committed to producing transformative theatrical experiences for our community.
Our performance venues include Spencer Theatre, a 550-seat modified thrust stage located in the Olson Performing Arts Center on the UMKC campus, and Copaken Stage, a 319-seat LORT D theatre located in the H&R Block world headquarters in downtown Kansas City.
KCRep鈥檚 season currently features three mainstage productions鈥攊ncluding our beloved annual presentation of A Christmas Carol鈥攖wo off-campus productions, a free community tour, and ongoing new works development initiatives.

JOB OVERVIEW
The Materials Coordinator / Carpenter is responsible for the purchasing of materials and supplies for the scene shop, prop shop, and scenic art department; and vehicle maintenance and upkeep. The Materials Coordinator also assists with the building, load-in, and strike of all scenery for KCRep productions using a variety of methods and materials.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
鈥rocess shop orders and requests accurately, efficiently, and on schedule
鈥aintain inventory of stock items and materials, ensuring safe and appropriate storage
鈥se and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE); restock safety supplies as needed
鈥anage shipment and receipt of packages for KCRep staff, cast, and designers
鈥ssist in scenic construction, including traditional theatrical building techniques, metal work, and welding
鈥articipate in the construction, load-ins, and strikes for productions and special events

Coordinate scenic transportation between the shop and various locations in Kansas City
鈥versee KCRep vehicle operations, including reservations and routine maintenance; coordinate payments and vendor interactions with KCRep and UMKC Conservatory
鈥dhere to all organizational policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS
鈥revious experience in a theatrical scene shop or comparable setting
鈥bility to creatively problem-solve and adapt to evolving project needs
鈥roficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings
鈥amiliarity with safe usage of tools and equipment, including welding and scenic carpentry tools
鈥illingness to wear PPE and adhere to safety practices
鈥omfortable working both independently and in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
鈥illingness to engage in brainstorming and collective decision-making
鈥orking knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; experience with software such as Vectorworks, Lightwright, and AutoCAD is helpful
鈥penness to learning, feedback, and inclusive collaboration practices
鈥ust be eligible to operate a 26-foot box truck under KCRep鈥檚 vehicle insurance policy, which requires a valid driver鈥檚 license and a minimum age of 25
