Theatrical Audio Engineer

Position Summary

Reporting to the Audio Director, this position supports live theatrical, educational, and public events by programming and operating sound systems, mixing performances, and maintaining audio equipment. The role involves both A1 and A2 responsibilities and works closely with the production team to ensure high-quality events.


Responsibilities

  • Program and operate mixing consoles (Yamaha M7CL, PM10) and manage crew communication systems (Clear-Com) for rehearsals and performances

  • Live mixing for technical rehearsal and performances of theatrical, musical, concert, and public address events

  • Prepare and interpret scripts, DCA breakdowns, I/O sheets, stage plots, and other associated paperwork

  • Prepare, fit, and troubleshoot wireless lavalier microphones

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot wireless systems, outboard processors, speakers, and amplifiers, and perform repairs as needed

  • Load in, set up, strike, and load out audio systems for events

  • Fabricate and wire practical sound effects and appliances for stage use

  • Other reasonable duties as assigned


Skills and Competencies

  • Working knowledge of live sound reinforcement and audio engineering standards

  • Experience mixing musicals with 10 - 40 wireless channels and line-by-line mixing

  • Proficiency with QLab, MainStage, and Mac-based workflows. Working knowledge of DAW-based recording software is a plus

  • Skilled in building and repairing XLR and Ethernet cables (e.g. soldering/punch down)

  • Familiarity with Dante and networked audio systems (Dante certification preferred)

  • Comfortable working at height, climbing ladders/stairs, and standing or moving for extended periods

  • Physically able to lift 20+ lbs. regularly and 50+ lbs. occasionally

  • Ability to work independently, as well as a part of a diverse team

  • Commitment to work nights, weekends, and long days (tech rehearsal schedules)


Compensation

This is a non-exempt position earning $19.25 - $20.25 per hour for 30-40 hours per week for the duration of the seasonal agreement, in addition to 401k and eligibility for Medical and Vision insurance plans, paid sick time and up to five (5) floating holidays.
