BREAKDOWN
鲍狈厂贰齿鈥檇 takes us back to a reimagined Elizabethan England, where magic and mayhem abound in equal measure. In a time when men played all the roles, we meet two boy-players, the seasoned but aging Wilburn Hussey, and the less talented but much younger (and hotter) Humphrey Hughes, as they fight it out to land the role of Lady Macbeth in the premiere of the Scottish Play. Both will do anything, ANYTHING, to get the part, and to catch the affectionate eye of the Bard himself. 鲍狈厂贰齿鈥檇 is an unapologetically queer, completely historically inaccurate dramedy with wigs, rivalries, and just a touch of old-fashioned black magic.
SEEKING:
WILBURN HUSSEY (Male, 30s-50s, any ethnicity) Once the glittering star of The Lord Chamberlain鈥檚 Men, Wilburn is a flamboyant, sharp-tongued diva famous for playing Shakespeare鈥檚 greatest women鈥檚 roles, all to critical acclaim. Now past his prime and aging into obsolescence, he鈥檚 struggling to hold onto relevance with a company (and playwright) that鈥檚 beginning to favor beauty over skill. Obsessed with keeping his star status, he uses Humphrey in his scheming, but soon finds he鈥檚 unable to control the outcome of his manipulations.
Important note: The character of Wilburn appears in underwear, both modern and period, multiple times throughout the script.
HUMPHREY HUGHES - (Male, 20s-30s, any ethnicity) A wide-eyed cockney breadmonger from the wrong side of the Thames, Humphrey stumbles into Shakespeare鈥檚 world by accident when he becomes an apprentice to Wilburn. He鈥檚 young, handsome, and a little rough around the edges, but his natural charisma and good looks quickly capture the company鈥檚 attention, including the affectionate eye of the Bard鈥檚 himself. Originally content to admire from the wings, he begins to realize he may have a real shot at the spotlight.
Important Note: The character of HUMPHREY appears in underwear, both modern and period, and has brief moments when his bare buttocks are exposed, including a moment when Wilburn slaps his buttocks. An intimacy coach will be utilized to stage these moments.
