News Alice Ripley, Michael Cerveris and More Honor Barbara Whitman at Transport Group's Gimme a Break! Gala Tonight The Transport Group honors Tony Award-winning producer Barbara Whitman at its 2014 Gimme a Break! gala Dec. 8 at 6:30 PM at the Asia Society and Museum.

The evening features Broadway stars sharing their "big break" moments in story and song, as well as an award presentation to Whitman, who receives the Transporting American Theatre Award from playwright Moises Kaufman (The Laramie Project) for her contributions to the American theatre.

Hosted by (You Can鈥檛 Take It With You), the evening features performances from (), (Dogfight), (Fun Home), (Fun Home) and Heather MacRae (I Remember Mama).

Whitman's producing credits include , , , , Red, , Next to Normal, , , , , and . In the West End, she produced Piaf, starring . National tours include Next to Normal, Legally Blonde, 鈥pelling Bee, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Frost/Nixon.

Whitman is a board member of the , a member of the Leadership Council of , East Coast Chair of Northwestern University's School of Communications Advisory Council and Chair Emeritus of Play Group Theatre, a Westchester-based theatre for children and teens. She is a member of as well as and SAG-AFTRA.
