The production will run through Nov. 1.
Here's how Westport bills the show: "Intimate Apparel weaves an intricate tapestry of the joys, sorrows, tragedy, and triumph of Esther, a gifted but lonely African-American seamstress in early twentieth century Manhattan as she negotiates the choice between a love that is accepted and one that is true."
Concurrent with the run, the Playhouse will present a community engagement initiative, "'Threads of Time, Fabric of History: Intimate Apparel in Context,' examining the playβs multi-faceted themes of labor, immigration, race, religion, New York at the turn of the 20th century, class relations, and womenβs issues."
The cast includes Nikki E. Walker (An American Plan, Trickle, "Orange Is The New Black") as Esther, (Cat on A Hot Tin Roof, "Blue Bloods") as Mrs. Van Buren, (, "The Knick") as George, Aleta Mitchell () as Mrs. Dickson, Tommy Schrider (, "The Americans") as Mr. Marks and (Vanya and Sonya and Masha and Spike) as Mayme.
The design team will include (scenic design), Michael Krass (costume design), Eric Southern (lighting design) and Fitz Patton (sound design). Tickets begin at $30.
