Astoria Performing Arts Center is planning a spring revival of and James Goldman鈥檚 1971 Broadway musical , which will be presented May 3-18 at the company's intimate home, The Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Astoria, Queens.
Artistic director Dev Bondarin will helm the mainstage musical that centers around a group of aging follies girls who return to New York for one final reunion before their former theatre is torn down.
Sondheim鈥檚 Tony Award-winning score features 鈥淚'm Still Here,鈥� 鈥淏roadway Baby,鈥� 鈥淟osing My Mind,鈥� 鈥淭he Right Girl,鈥� and 鈥淭oo Many Mornings.鈥� Harold Prince directed the 1971 original. Follies was last revived on Broadway in 2011.
APAC鈥檚 2017-2018 mainstage season also includes the world premiere of Monet Hurst-Mendoza鈥檚 痴别颈濒鈥檇, about a 16-year-old girl from Afghanistan who immigrates to New York with her family in search of the American dream. However, a rare skin condition keeps her sequestered in her room, far away from the normal teenage life her parents dreamed for her. Pirronne Yousefzadeh directs the November 2鈥�18 run.
In February 2018, APAC will partner with Beehive Dramaturgy Studio to present Intersecting Identities, a new works series dedicated to plays exploring race, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, religion, and country of origin.
