Producer and director Gretchen Cryer will present True Stories, a series of solo shows running in repertory, at Off-Broadway's Cherry Lane Theatre May 3鈥�22.
Performers-playwrights include Gretchen Cryer鈥檚 son, two-time Emmy winner Jon Cryer (Two and Half Men), Linda Manning, Alex Petrullo, Abby Stokes, and Steve Wruble. Each of the five plays will have five performances over the three-week run.
The five plays offered are Jon Cryer's personal love letter to theatre, The Actor's Nightmare; Manning's chronicle of her own evolution through encounters with dangerous men, Perfect Love; Petrullo's search for a happily-ever-after, Crave; Stokes' comedic inquisition into her parents' swinging '60s lifestyle, A Good Girl Doesn't; and Wruble's journey away from the expectations of his father (who happened to be Elvis Presley's proctologist), Escape From Daddyland.
鈥淭he journey I've gone on with each of these artists has been full of surprising twists and turns. It鈥檚 a very exciting process that requires great courage and a willingness to embrace the unexpected. These wonderful plays are bursting at the seams and ready for an audience. It鈥檚 been an incredible time developing this kind of theatre with these gifted artists," said Gretchen Cryer. "Needless to say, working with my son, Jon Cryer, as he makes his maiden voyage into this kind of theatre is another dream come true.鈥�
Cryer is best known for the 1978 long-running Off-Broadway musical 滨鈥檓 Getting My Act Together and Taking It On the Road, which she starred in and co-wrote with Nancy Ford. She is on the Dramatists Guild Council and is President Emeritus of the Dramatist Guild Foundation.
