Dixie McCall's Patterns for Living, a collaboration between Mx Bond and , was first brought to life in 1990 at a hole-in-the-wall Greek restaurant in San Francisco. The character of Dixie was inspired by Bond's love of 1950's glamor icon Julie London, who played Nurse Dixie in a 1970's TV show. As the show performed the San Francisco circuit, it became the basis for Bond and Mellman's legendary signature cabaret act, Kiki and Herb, which toured the country for decades and made it to Broadway in 2006. Kiki & Herb: Alive on Broadway was nominated for a Tony Award.
The revival of Dixie McCall's Patterns for Living will begin performances Sept. 18, running through Oct. 4 on select evenings at 9 PM.
"As Vivian鈥檚 performance home for the last 15 years, we have watched firsthand the incredible work v has done, not only for the arts but for the LGBTQ community. We are so incredibly honored to celebrate v鈥檚 major milestone, and can鈥檛 wait to see what the next decades hold," said Shanta Thake, director of Joe鈥檚 Pub, in a press statement.
The retrospective will continue with and The Freudian Slippers: The Lost Show on Nov. 13 and 14; the annual holiday show, which is this year titled Angels We Have Heard When High, running Dec. 16-23; Love is Crazy for Valentine鈥檚 Day, Mx America in March and more to be announced.
Mx Bond is a recipient of The Award, The Peter Reed Foundation Grant, and The Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artists Award for Performance Art/Theater, an Obie and a Bessie.
