The Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC) honors late cabaret artist Julie Wilson, a singer whose presence in the cabaret world led her to be called 鈥淭he Queen of Cabaret,鈥� October 30 in an afternoon of songs and stories at Don鈥檛 Tell Mama.
Scheduled to participate at the 3 PM event are Wilson鈥檚 son, Holt McCallany; Hamilton star Jonathan Groff; Debbie Damp; Wilson鈥檚 long-time musical director, Christopher Denny; Lina Koutrakos; Lorinda Lisitza; Sidney Myer; and Chris Zelno.
In addition to the performances, there will be a special sneak peek at a documentary on Wilson produced by her son, Holt. After the performances, a plaque dedicated to Ms. Wilson will be unveiled in its permanent place in the entrance to Don鈥檛 Tell Mama鈥檚 cabaret rooms.
Ms. Wilson, who died at age 90, starred on Broadway (nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Legs Diamond and also appeared in Park, Jimmy, The Girl in the Freudian Slip, Kismet, The Pajama Game), the West End (Kiss Me, Kate; Bells Are Ringing; South Pacific), appeared in a number of movies and television shows (Kiss Me, Kate; Kraft Theatre; The Phil Silvers Show), and released numerous recordings (Live from the Russian Tea Room; My Old Flame; Julie Wilson at the St. Regis). .
