Broadway favorite Kara Lindsay took to social media February 4 to reveal her multi-month battle with breast cancer.
Lindsay, who completed her run as Sutton Foster's standby in the Broadway revival of Once Upon a Mattress November 30, 2024, the news on her public Instagram account.
"Today is World Cancer Day and it feels like the appropriate day to share this with you," Lindsay writes. "I was recently diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. Before I go further, I鈥檓 going to be OK. I feel very lucky that I caught this early and I will be on the other side of this very soon. I started eight rounds of chemotherapy on October 24 and just finished on Jan[uary] 30[,] so I鈥檓 celebrating closing this massive chapter in my healing journey! I have no hair, but I still have my spirit and my joy. I鈥檓 trying to find as much light in this dark time as possible. Again, I will be OK. Sharing this with you all feels freeing and allows me to walk forward authentically and with pride. Cancer certainly does not define me. However, this battle is now part of the fabric of who I am. I would now like to be called 鈥楰ara (kicking cancer鈥檚 ass) Lindsay鈥� please and thank you."
Lindsay is a treasured comedic actress, known for her star turns as Glinda in Wicked and Cynthia Weil in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, as well as creating the role of Katherine in Newsies.
Alongside the reveal of her cancer diagnosis, Lindsay participated in a photoshoot with Broadway photographer Jenny Anderson documenting her transformation. The photographs can be seen below.
