The production, which was entirely sold out, officially opened Oct. 30 following previews that began Oct. 23 and was helmed by the theatre's Tony Award-winning artistic director, .
Broadway producers Charlie Lyons, and Jeff Steen are attached to the production, which they presented in a special arrangement with Hartford Stage. Hartford Stage is also where the Tony-winning musical A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder had its debut.
No plans have been announced for the play's future beyond Hartford at this time.
The cast of Rear Window is headed by stage and screen star , who plays Hal Jeffries, with McKinley Belcher III as Sam, Melinda Page Hamilton as Mrs. Thorwald and Gloria, as Boyne, as Thorwald and nine ensemble members: Dan Bender, Erik Bloomquist, Ashley Croce, Roy Donnelly, Barbara Gallow, Jon Garrity, Caitlin Harrity, William Squier and Quinn Warren.
The play is based on the same short story鈥�"Rear Window" by Cornell Woolrich鈥攖hat inspired the Alfred Hitchcock film, a 1954 Academy Award nominee. According to press notes, the play "is the classic story of a man confined to his apartment who thinks he may have witnessed a murder in a nearby building." Bacon made his Broadway debut with Slab Boys in 1983, and returned in 2002 with An Almost Holy Picture. He won an OBIE Award for Forty Deuce. He is a Golden Globe Award winner and Emmy Award nominee whose films include "Footloose," "A Few Good Men," "Apollo 13," "Murder in the First," "JFK," "The Woodsman," "X-Men: First Class," "Sleepers," "The River Wild" and his current work, "Cop Car."
The production has scenic design by , costume design by , lighting design by York Kennedy, sound design by Jane Shaw, projection design by Sean Nieuwenhuis and fight choreography by Steve Rankin.
