Olympia Dukakis and Laura Linney are returning to 28 Barbary Lane. reports that Netflix is planning to produce a fourth miniseries based on further installments of Armistead Maupin鈥檚 Tales of the City, which traces the intertwining lives of a group of San Francisco residents in the 1970s.
The first book in Maupin鈥檚 nine-novel series was adapted for television in 1993. PBS stirred controversy for airing the American premiere of the miniseries that depicted openly gay characters and unconventional lifestyles. Showtime later continued with Tales, debuting More Tales of the City in 1998 and Further Tales of the City in 2001.
Dukakis and Linney, who created the roles of Barbary Lane鈥檚 mystical land lady Anna Madrigal and midwestern transplant Mary Ann Singleton in the 1993 TV premiere, continued with the series when it moved to Showtime, as did several other key members of the ensemble cast.
The two are slated to return to the roles in the Netflix series, which will catch up with the characters 25 years after the final miniseries ended. Watch the original trailer for the 1993 premiere at the top of the story.
Netflix declined to comment on the project. Maupin is attached to executive produce.
