Tony-winning sound designer Nevin Steinberg has been named as the new President of the Board of Trustees of Town Hall. Steinberg follows Tom Wirtshafter, who served on the Board for two decades, assuming the role of President in 2013.
The historic New York City venue that has, for more than 100 years, hosted legendary performances, lectures, and debates, welcoming everyone from Eleanor Roosevelt and Langston Hughes to Mavis Staples and the Beastie Boys.
鈥淎fter 21 extraordinary years, working with some of the most creative and original people in theatre anywhere, I鈥檓 excited to welcome Nevin as the new President of the Board of Trustees,鈥 said Wirtshafter in a statement. 鈥淭own Hall is lucky to have Tony Award winner Nevin Steinberg at its helm. Not only has he helped create amazing experiences on Broadway and throughout the world, but he has also engineered and made possible Town Hall鈥檚 new state-of-the-art sound system.鈥
During Wirtshafter鈥檚 tenure, Town Hall鈥檚 annual budget grew from just over $3 million to more than $6 million in 2024. Wirtshafter spearheaded important renovations and upgrades, and led the theatre鈥檚 post-Covid return, with nearly 200 shows planned for 2024 alone.
鈥淚t has been a privilege to serve the Town Hall Foundation and its incredible staff as a Trustee for the last 10 years,鈥 says Steinberg. 鈥淯nder Tom Wirtshafter鈥檚 exceptional leadership, we expanded our impact, weathered COVID, and thrived when the entertainment sector reopened.鈥疧ur exciting and diverse programming, and innovative educational programs continue to impress our audiences, constituents, and funders.鈥疘鈥檓 very excited to lead the board in promoting our mission,鈥痗onnecting our compelling history to our organization鈥檚 future, and re-establishing The Town Hall as one of New York鈥檚 and America鈥檚 vital cultural institutions.鈥
