Audiences got a bit of a scare when a medical emergency befell We Had a World co-star Jeanine Serralles mid-performance March 9 at New York City Center Stage II. The evening performance was canceled when Serralles was suddenly unable to finish the show, but theatre representatives expect Serralles to make a full recovery and the play's run to continue as scheduled.
鈥淎ctor Jeanine Serralles fell ill during the evening performance of We Had a World on Sunday, March 9 and was unable to complete the performance," reads the production's statement. "She received swift medical care for dehydration and is now resting. The show will continue as scheduled on Tuesday, March 11. Ticket holders for the halted performance will be contacted as soon as possible by their place of purchase to reschedule their tickets or arrange for a refund.鈥
The play, which co-stars Tony winner Joanna Gleason (Into the Woods) and Andrew Barth Feldman (Dear Evan Hansen), is due to open March 19. The extended run will continue through April 27.
The new work follows a dying woman who calls upon her grandson to write a "bitter and vitriolic" (according to press notes) play about their family, ultimately invoking past family fights, cruelty, and love. Tripp Cullman is directing. Gleason stars as Renee, with Feldman as Joshua, and Serralles as Ellen. Understudies Sam Primack, Courtney Balan, and Glynis Bell round out the company. Casting is by Kelly Gillespie.
The production features scenic design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by Kaye Voyce, lighting design by Ben Stanton, original music and sound design by Sinan Refik Zafar, and wig and make-up design by Tommy Kurzman. Bess Marie Glorioso is production stage manager.
