DESCRIPTION

Vanguard Theater is seeking a Music Director for Hair to lead our upcoming production of HAIR, the legendary rock musical that defined a generation. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic creative team and bring the show's powerful score to life.

Responsibilities:
Teach and rehearse all vocal and instrumental music
Lead and conduct the band during performances and tech
Collaborate with the director and choreographer to integrate music seamlessly
Ensure musical excellence while capturing the spirit of the 1960s counterculture

Requirements:
Strong background in musical direction, preferebly in rock musicals
Ability to work with singers of various skill levels
Experience conducting a live band
Excellent piano skills
Passion for telling a story

Important Dates:

First Rehearsal: Monday, May 19th, 2025

Tech Begins: Monday, June 2nd, 2025

Opening: Thursday, June 12th, 205

Closing: Sunday, June 29th, 2025

Rehearsals are generally during the day and tech rehearsals are in the evening.


**please note that housing is not provided**


All rehearsals and performances are held at Vanguard Theater, conveniently located just a 30-minute train ride from NYC to Bay Street station in Montclair, NJ. From there, it's just a two-minute walk to the theater.
