25 DAYS OF TONYS: Producer and Theatre Owner Jordan Roth on Creating Three Tony-Nominated Shows
Roth shares what inspires him as one of Broadway鈥檚 leading theatremakers, one who earned noms for Falsettos, Present Laughter, and Groundhog Day.
鈥淲e came to the theatre together as fans first,鈥� says Jordan Roth of him and his mother鈥攖he woman who first introduced him to theatre and she, herself, a Broadway producer. 鈥淚 have extraordinary memories of coming to the theatre coming into the city for a weekend matinee and lunch. She really exposed me to a wide array of what the theatre can be and who it can be for.鈥�
Ever since those matinees as a child, Roth has loved the art form and now works to bring it to the masses both as a producer and the President of Jujamcyn Theaters, which owns the Al Hirschfeld (Kinky Boots), the Eugene O鈥橬eill (The Book of Mormon), the St. James (Present Laughter), the August Wilson (Groundhog Day), and the Walter Kerr (Falsettos).

As a producer, 鈥淚鈥檓 in charge of convening this extraordinary group of people creatively, financially, marketing to create and run this show,鈥� says Roth. But those who know Roth understand he is an innovator in the industry, constantly toiling to expand the audience for theatre and pushing boundaries within the art.
His Making Mondays series brings artists鈥攐f the Broadway ilk and otherwise鈥攖ogether for an evening of creation and broadcasts it via social media. Roth comes from a place of facilitating community and family鈥攁s is the connecting thread between his three Tony-nominated shows.
