50 First Dates: The Musical, adapted from the 2004 Columbia Pictures romantic comedy, will make its world premiere at London's The Other Palace September 14-November 16.
The new musical, which features a book, music, and lyrics by David Rossmer and Steve Rosen (The Other Josh Cohen), follows bachelor Henry, who thinks he has found "the one" in art teacher Lucy, until the next morning when she wakes up with no memory of their first date.
Tony winner Casey Nicholaw (Mean Girls, The Book of Mormon) will direct a cast featuring Georgina Castle (Mean Girls) as Lucy Whitmore, the artist with short-term memory loss; and Josh St. Clair (Ghost) as Henry Roth, the commitment-phobe who falls in love with her. Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore played those roles in the film.
In a statement Nicholaw said, 鈥50 First Dates is one of the most beloved romantic comedies of all time, and has also been one of my favorites ever since I first saw it. After watching it about 50 times as my 'go to' movie on airplane flights, I realized it would really sing well and could be very special, so I began to start the ball rolling to turn it into a new stage musical. I鈥檓 so excited to direct and choreograph the world premiere of this new, funny, and romantic show. I鈥檓 also thrilled to reunite with Georgina Castle after her phenomenal turn as Regina George in my production of Mean Girls, and to collaborate for the first time with the immensely talented Josh St. Clair. I can鈥檛 wait for London audiences to fall in love鈥攁gain and again and again鈥攚hen we open this September.鈥
The upcoming production will also have set and costume design by Fly Davis, lighting design by Aideen Malone, video design by George Reeve, sound design by Adam Fisher, hair and makeup design by Cynthia De La Rosa, orchestrations and arrangements by Matthew Jackson, and musical supervision and musical direction by Richard Beadle. The casting director is Natalie Gallacher for Natalie Gallacher and Pippa Ailion Casting.
ATG Productions, Bad Robot Live, and Gavin Kalin Productions produce.
