News A Sneak Peek at Mark Rylance's Biggest Role Yet in Steven Spielberg's "BFG" Walt Disney Studios have released the teaser trailer for the Steven Spielberg-helmed film adaptation of Roald Dahl's children's classic "The BFG." In the title role of the beloved Big Friendly Giant will be three-time Tony winner Mark Rylance.

The London-set film, about a young girl's adventures with her Giant friend, is slated to be released in July, 2016.

Rylance heads the cast with newcomer Ruby Barnhill as Sophie, as The Queen and as Mary, the Queen鈥檚 maid. Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement, Adamthwaite, Daniel Bacon, Chris Gibbs, , Jonathan Holmes, Paul Moniz de Sa and Olafur Olaffson are all cast as giants.

As previously reported, the film marks three-time Academy Award winner Spielberg's first time directing a Disney-branded movie.

"In more than 40 years of making movies, I have been on the producing end of a number of films for The Walt Disney Company, but never as a director," stated Spielberg in an earlier statement. "It is a special joy to be in the director's chair as we start "The BFG," alongside my long-time friends and film collaborators Kathy Kennedy, who introduced me to this project, Frank Marshall and Melissa Mathison. Together with them and Disney, there are many reasons why I am so excited about this joint venture." Based on the novel by Dahl, 鈥淭he BFG" features a film adaptation based on a script by Melissa Mathison.
