Tony-winning actor-director Alan Cumming has joined the producing team for the upcoming New York debut of Rob Madge's West End and Fringe hit solo show, My Son's a Queer (But What Can You Do?), set to play New York City Center June 12-15 in an extended run.

Madge will perform the show while on a week-long hiatus from Cabaret in London's West End, where they are currently starring as the Emcee opposite Bridgerton's Hannah Dodd.

鈥淚鈥檓 thrilled to be joining the producing team of this hilarious, bold, and deeply moving production,鈥 says Cumming, who previously co-produced the Broadway run of Best Musical Tony winner A Strange Loop, in a statement. 鈥淭his celebration of queer joy is exactly the kind of storytelling we need more of on our stages.鈥

My Son's a Queer (But What Can You Do?), which recounts Madge's childhood growing up obsessed with Disney princesses and Broadway musicals, is written and performed by Madge, and directed by Luke Sheppard (& Juliet), with original songs by Pippa Cleary (The Great British Bake Off Musical). The production also features scenic and costume design by Ryan Dawson Laight, lighting design by Jai Morjaria, sound design by Tingying Dong, video design by George Reeve, and orchestrations by Simon Nathan.

Tom Smedes, Heather Shields, Tom D'Angora, Michael D'Angora, and Peter Stern are producing. The work was initially produced in the U.K. by Bill Kenwright and Paul Taylor Mills.

The show premiered at London's Turbine Theatre in 2021 before becoming a sell-out at the 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. West End bows followed in 2022 and 2023, earning a 2023 Olivier nomination. A cast recording was released in 2022. A Broadway run had been announced for last year, but was called off just weeks before performances were set to begin. Producers then said a Broadway run was still in the works, but that hasn't materialized.
