News Broadway Will Dim Its Lights for Playwright Peter Shaffer Tonight The salute to the author of Amadeus and Equus is scheduled for 6:45 PM.

Broadway marquees are being dimmed for one minute starting at 6:45 PM June 16 to mourn the passing of two-time Tony Award-winning playwright Peter Shaffer, who died June 6 in Ireland at age 90.

Shaffer wrote more than a dozen plays, two of which won the Tony Award as Best Play, Equus in 1975 and Amadeus in 1981. His other plays include Black Comedy/White Lies, Lettice and Lovage, The Royal Hunt of the Sun and Five Finger Exercise. His last Broadway production was a revival of Equus in 2008.

Charlotte St. Martin, president of the Broadway League, stated, 鈥淭he acclaimed British dramatist Peter Shaffer who wrote Amadeus and Equus leaves behind a legacy of words through his notable body of critically and commercially successful works. He will be missed, and our thoughts are with his family and friends.鈥�
