Fiddler on the Roof will be the latest in a series of summer musicals at the Barbican鈥攑art of the ongoing partnership between Trafalgar Theatre Productions and the Barbican鈥following Anything Goes; Kiss Me, Kate; and A Strange Loop.

Producer Howard Panter said in an earlier statement, 鈥淚 saw this incredible production last summer and was immediately blown away. I'm delighted鈥攚ith our partners鈥攖o bring this masterpiece to the Barbican and on tour for what will be one of the major cultural highlights of the year. It was completely sold out during its Regent鈥檚 Park run, so this new production will give many more people the chance to see musical theatre at its very best.鈥

Based on the stories of Sholom Aleichem, Fiddler on the Roof has a book by Joseph Stein, music by Jerry Bock, and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The classic musical tells the story of Tevye the milkman, who clings to the Jewish customs of Anatevka, his hometown in pre-Revolutionary Russia. As his daughters question these traditions and the world changes around them, Tevye is challenged to find a new way to learn and to love.

The original 1964 Broadway production, which played seven previews and 3,242 regular performances, won nine Tony Awards, including those for Best Musical and star Zero Mostel.
