International News Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Musical to Embark on World Tour

Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman's adaption of the beloved Roald Dahl novel will make multi-week stops across the globe.

Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman's musical adaption of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will tour the globe beginning this fall. Based on the novel of the same name, the musical ran on Broadway April 2017鈥揓anuary 2018.

The multi-year touring production will make its first stop beginning October 19 at the Dongguan International Arts Festival in China. From there, it will visit Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, Macao, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Singapore, Hong Kong, Manila, and Seoul, running in each city for multiple weeks at a time. Additional cities are to be announced.

The cast will include Cooper Grodin as Willy Wonka and Steve McCoy as Grandpa Joe, with Cohen Toukatly and Jules Presley alternating in the role of Charlie. Further casting will be announced at a later date. 

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory features music by Grammy, Emmy, and Tony winner Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Grammy and Tony winners Scott Wittman and Shaiman, a book by David Greig, choreography by Tony nominee and Emmy winner Joshua Bergasse, and additional songs by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley from the 1971 film. Following a West End world premiere, the musical played a Broadway run in 2017.

The world tour will feature direction by Matt Lenz, dhoreography by Alison Solomon, musical supervision by Nate Patten and Greg Jarrett, costume and set design by Mark Thompson, scenic design by Christine Peters, projections design by Jeff Sugg, lighting design by Rory Beaton, sound design by Mike Thacker for Orbital Sound, puppet design by Basil Twist, illusions by Tim Clothier, orchestrations by Doug Besterman, musical arrangements by Marc Shaiman, and casting by Paul Hardt Casting. Jeff Cox will conduct the 10-piece touring orchestra.
