Disney, which had a hit with its combination live action and CGI remake of The Jungle Book, and which is planning to roll out a similar Beauty and the Beast next year, has announced that it is planning a combination live/CGI film remake of the animated classic The Lion King, according to
A musical based on the same property has been running on Broadway since 1998.
The Jungle Book director Jon Favreu will helm the project. Disney said on its website: 鈥淟ike Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King will include songs from the animated film.鈥� There was no immediate word on whether songs from the stage version would also be used.
The film earned more than $1 billion for Disney and won Oscars for the Elton John song Can You Feel the Love Tonight and original score.
