Hello, Dollys! Broadway-aimed Dolly Parton biomusical Dolly: An Original Musical has cast its Dollys for the upcoming world premiere run at Nashville, Tennessee's Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. The staging will begin performances July 18 ahead of an August 8 opening night, with the now-extended run to continue through August 31. Tony winner Bartlett Sher is directing.
And starring as Parton, each in different stages of the 11-time Grammy winner's life, will be Katie Rose Clarke, Carrie St. Louis, and Quinn Titcomb. Notably, none of the three were part of the finalists chosen from the musical's online Search for Dolly casting call, which invited 15 hopefuls to attend in-person auditions in New York City earlier this year. Producers have shared, however, that two performers from that group will join the Nashville company in some capacity, to be announced in the coming weeks. Casting is by Jim Carnahan and Carrie Gardner.
Both Clarke and St. Louis are Broadway alums, the former having recently starred in Merrily We Roll Along and the latter most recently starring as Glinda in Wicked. Titcomb hails from South Florida and has appeared in touring and regional productions of Waitress, Les Mis茅rables, The Sound of Music, Frozen, and Fun Home.
Parton shared at a recent press event that she's written "a whole lot" of new, original songs for the show, but audiences can also expect to hear some of the Grammy winner's greatest hits. Maria S. Schlatter is collaborating with Parton on the musical's book.
Dolly will be Parton's second Broadway outing, after penning the original score to 2009's 9 to 5. The musical was based on the film of the same name, which co-stars Parton and featured her chart-topping hit title song (which also appears in the musical version).
Parton, Danny Nozell, ATG Productions, and Gavin Kalin Productions are producing, with 101 Productions serving as general manager.
