Music Theatre International is celebrating National Corn on the Cob Day June 11 by adding corn-y musical Shucked to its licensing catalogue. The title is not currently available for new productions, but interested groups can sign up for notifications about availability at .
Shucked, which played a Broadway run in 2023 and is currently making its U.K. debut at London's Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, takes place in an isolated town called Cobb County, which is put into disarray when the local corn crops start dying. The young Maizy must travel to the outside world to find help, and learns something about herself in the process. The Broadway production ran for 327 performances and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, winning one for actor Alex Newell, who made history as the first non-binary actor to win a Tony.
The show features a book by Robert Horn and music and lyrics by Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally.
