Casting has been revealed for the upcoming world premiere musical Madame Clicquot at Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, set to play the Pennsylvania company May 29-June 9, opening May 30.
Paolo Montalban will lead the company as Louis Bohne, reprising his work from a workshop of the new musical last year. Also back from that workshop will be Victoria Frings (An Enemy of the People) as Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, Kai An Chee as Genevi茅ve, Jonathan Christopher (Sweeney Todd) as Jean-R茅my Mo毛t, Nick Laughlin as Napoleon Bonaparte, Rob Richardson (Jekyll & Hyde) as Phillipe Clicquot, and Eric Sorrels as Priest, along with Dalton Bertolone and Santina Umbach (Mamma Mia!).
New to the project are Kylie Edwards as Cl茅mentine Ponsardin, Joseph Domencic as Philippe Clicquot, Steve Blanchard as Nicolas Ponsardin, Isabel Kruse as Abbess, Matthew Hydzik as Doctor, Grant Pace as Marshall Ney, J. Alex Noble as Royal Guard, Michael Greer as Moet's Father, Kai Sachon as Richard Leroux, and Ronan Ryan as Vintner, as well as Meredith Inglesby, Erin McMillen, Tonyia M Rue, Maile Oravitz, Maxine Warren, Jillienne Leigh Glodowski, Jordan DeLeon, and Paris Martino. Additional casting is to be announced.
Written by Lisette Glodowski and Richard C. Walter, the work released a studio album in 2023.
The work tells the story of Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin and her journey revolutionizing the world of Champagne during the French Revolution and Napoleonic wars.
The production will not be part of PCLO's regular summer season, instead playing as a stand-alone offering at the Byham Theatre thanks to a commercial enhancement from producer 42nd Parallel Productions. Laurie Glodowski is directing and choreographing, with music direction by Kenneth Gartman and orchestrations by Frank Galgano and Matt Castle.
