Elaine Hendrix, who starred as the devilish Meredith Blake in Disney's 1998 The Parent Trap film, has joined the producing team for Off-Broadway's upcoming Parent Trap parody, Ginger Twinsies. Written and directed by Kevin Zak, the work begins its world premiere run at the Orpheum Theatre July 10 ahead of a July 24 opening night, and the run will continue through October 26.
鈥淢eredith Blake has followed me in the best ways, and Ginger Twinsies is a joyful full-circle moment,鈥 says Hendrix in a statement. 鈥淭his parody taps into The Parent Trap nostalgia audiences love, while personally giving me the chance to return to my theatre roots鈥攁 place I鈥檝e been longing to revisit. It鈥檚 wildly funny, full of brilliant talent, and exactly the kind of creative joy I love being part of.鈥
鈥淲e couldn鈥檛 dream up a better partner for Ginger Twinsies than Elaine Hendrix,鈥 add producers Preston Whiteway, Jenny Steingart, and Mandy Hackett. 鈥淪he鈥檚 not only a pop culture icon thanks to The Parent Trap, but she also brings an incredible creative spirit, theatrical savvy, and deep love for this material. Having her join the producing team feels like the ultimate wink to fans and a perfect fit for this hilarious and heartfelt production.鈥

Press notes promise "nostalgia, camp (literally, they go camping), and some unexpected twists" in the work inspired by the 1998 film written by Nancy Meyers, David Swift, and Charles Shyer. A remake of a 1961 film, 1998's The Parent Trap starred Lindsay Lohan as 12 year-old twins who are separated at birth when their parents divorce and move to different continents. A chance encounter at a Maine summer camp reunites them and sparks a plan to get their parents back together. The film was Lohan's first major credit, kicking off a career that skyrocketed soon after. The film also starred late Tony winner Natasha Richardson as the twins' mother. Erin Mackey served as Lohan's double.
The show will feature scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Wilberth Gonzalez, lighting design by Bradley King, sound design by Joshua D. Reid, and movement by Jesse Robb. Sarah Sahin will serve as production stage manager, with Steve Rosenberg and Bethany Weinstein Stewert as production managers. Baseline Theatrical is the general manager.
Andy Jones is executive producer.
