Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's musical Little Dancer will receive a concert staging in London later this summer.
Playing the Theatre Royal Drury Lane July 27, this will mark the U.K. premiere of the musical, which has been in development since 2014. At one point titled Marie, Dancing Still, the musical has previously been developed at the Kennedy Center and Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre.
Inspired by the real-life story behind Edgar Degas鈥� iconic sculpture Little Dancer, the musical is directed and choreographed by five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman (The Producers, Crazy for You).
Tiler Peck, a principal dancer with New York City Ballet, will
reprise her acclaimed role as Young Marie van Goethem.
Olivier nominee Laura Pitt-Pulford will play Adult Marie, while Olivier
nominee Julian Ovenden is cast as Edgar Degas. Further casting and
creative team members will be announced at a later date.
The show, which is "set in the harsh backstage world of the Paris Opera Ballet," according to press notes, follows Marie as she "navigates poverty, ambition, and the challenges of being a young woman in a man鈥檚 world, she becomes the heart of one of the most celebrated artworks in history."
Little Dancer is produced by Anita Waxman Productions, Tegan Summer Theatricals, Shea Theatricals, Patricia R. Klausner and Sharon Carr. Casting is by Jill Green Casting. General management is by Anthology Theatre Productions.
