London News Todrick Hall to Direct and Choreograph West End Debut of Burlesque the Musical

Steve Antin's new musical, based on the 2010 film of the same name, features songs by Christina Aguilera and Sia.

Todrick Hall will direct and choreograph the West End premiere of Burlesque the Musical later this year. 

Playing London's Savoy Theatre, the new musical is based on Steven Antin鈥檚 film of the same name, which starred Christina Aguilera and Cher. The musical will begin performances at The Savoy on July 10, and run until September 6, with opening night set for July 22.

Hall is succeeding Nick Winston, who directed and choreographed the musical's earlier world premiere stagings in Manchester and Glasgow.

Hall was in the original Broadway casts of The Color Purple and Memphis, and has played Lola in Kinky Boots, Billy Flynn in Chicago, and Ogie in Waitress. In the U.K., he played Billy Flynn in the West End production of Chicago and Donkey in Shrek the Musical. He originated the roles of Nurse Shea and Robin in the world premiere of Wild about You and played Sean in Burlesque the Musical in Manchester and Glasgow. Hall has also written brand new songs for the productions West End run. 

The new musical follows Ali, who heads to the bright lights of New York in search of her long-lost mother and finds herself drawn into an underground world where the beat of the music and the heat of the dance moves will change her life forever.

Written and produced by Antin with additional material by Kate Wetherhead, Burlesque features songs by Christina Aguilera and Sia, with new music by Hall and Jess Folley.

Burlesque the Musical is produced by Adam Paulden and Jason Haigh-Ellery, and Sue Gilad and Larry Rogowsky, Steven Antin and Christina Aguilera, and Clint Culpepper.

Casting will be announced at a later date.
