What's Danny Burstein's astrological sign? As he shared with 半岛体育's Jeffrey Vizca铆no: "I'm a Gemini, I like long walks on the beach." And he also shared with 半岛体育 how he became a part of the current revival of Gypsy opposite Audra McDonald. Watch his answer in the video above, as he reflects on what it means to be nominated for a 2025 Tony Award for his performance of Herbie.
Though Gypsy is a thrill for any artist to do, it is also supremely challenging, even for an eight-time Tony nominee (and one-time winner) like Burstein. "The hardest scene for me is the last scene, because I have to leave her and break up with her. The easiest part was falling in love with Audra every single night, because we're old friends and because I love her so damn much," explains Burstein. "The hardest part was finding a way to break away from her and also breaking away from the girls [played by Joy Woods and Jordan Tyson], who are my would-be my stepchildren. That was difficult for me and heartbreaking to find, but I think we have found it, and I'm happy with the way it's going."
Burstein is currently nominated for his performance in Gypsy alongside his costars McDonald (Best Actress in a Musical) and Joy Woods (Best Featured Actress in a Musical). The production is also nominated for Best Revival of a Musical and Best Choreography (for Camille Brown).

Directed by George C. Wolfe, Broadway's latest Gypsy revival opened at the Majestic Theatre December 19, 2024, where it continues. Tickets are currently on sale through October 5. With her 11th Tony nomination, McDonald is currently making history as the most Tony-nominated performer of all time (along with her previous record of being the most Tony-awarded performer in Tony history, with six).
The cast of Gypsy also includes Kevin Csolak as Tulsa, Lesli Margherita as Tessie Tura, Lili Thomas as Miss Mazeppa, Mylinda Hull as Miss Electra, Jacob Ming-Trent as Uncle Jocko, Kyleigh Denae Vickers as Baby Louise, and Marley Lianne Gomes and Jade Smith as Baby June. Tryphena Wade is the standby for Rose.

The revival is up for five 2025 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. Winners will be named June 8 at Radio City Music Hall, in a ceremony hosted by Cynthia Erivo and broadcast live on CBS and streaming via Paramount+.
Gypsy, based on the mostly fictional memoir of famed burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee, features a book by Arthur Laurents and songs with music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The show is one of Broadway's favorites to revive. Since premiering in 1959, the show has returned to Broadway in 1974, starring Angela Lansbury; 1989, starring Tyne Daly; 2003, starring Bernadette Peters; and 2008, starring Patti LuPone. The work has been filmed three times: a 1962 feature film starring Rosalind Russell, a 1993 TV film starring Bette Midler, and a filmed stage performance of a 2015 London revival starring Imelda Staunton.
