Video Watch: Cast of 2025 Best Musical Tony Nominee Death Becomes Her Perform a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR

See 2025 Tony nominees Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard, plus Michelle Williams and Christopher Sieber sing songs from the screen-to-stage musical.

2025 Best Musical Tony Award nominee Death Becomes Her headed to NPR for a Tiny Desk Concert May 19. See 2025 Tony nominees Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard, along with fellow cast members Christopher Sieber, Michelle Williams, Josh Lamon, Taurean Everett, and Ximone Rose perform four songs from the screen-to-stage musical in the video above.

Also on hand are songwriters Noel Carey and Julia Mattison, along with musicians Dillon Kondor, Rob Jost, Ben Cohn, and Damien Bassman.

The new show鈥攆eaturing a book by Marco Pennette, adapted from the screenplay by Martin Donovan and David Koepp; and songs by Mattison and Carey鈥攐pened November 21, 2024, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, and a cast album was released from Concord Theatricals Recordings April 17. See what critics are saying about the musical here. Tony winner Christopher Gattelli directs and choreographs.

With 10 2025 Tony nominations, the show is tied with Buena Vista Social Club and Maybe Happy Ending as the season's most nominated show. The production is up for the much coveted Best Musical category, along with nominations for Best Original Score (Carey and Mattison), Book of a Musical (Pennette), Leading Actress in a Musical (Hilty and Simard), and Direction and Choreography (both Gattelli). Also up for awards are the musical's scenic, costume, and lighting designers, by Derek McLane, Paul Tazewell, and Justin Townsend, respectively. Winners will be named in a June 8 ceremony at Radio City Music Hall, airing live on CBS and streaming via Paramount+.

Simard leads the cast opposite Hilty as Helen Sharp and Madeline Ashton, respectively, two rivals who gain eternal youth via a magic potion with some dirty side effects in the musical version of the 1992 film. Sieber and Williams are co-starring as Ernest Menville and Viola Van Horn, respectively. All four are reprising their performances from the musical's Chicago pre-Broadway tryout last year.

Joining them are Taurean Everett as Chagall, Josh Lamon as Stefan; and Marija Abney, Lauren Celentano, Sarita Col贸n, Kaleigh Cronin, Natalie Charle Ellis, Michael Graceffa, Neil Haskell, Kolton Krouse, Sarah Meahl, Ximone Rose, Sir Brock Warren, Bud Weber, Ryan Worsing, and Warren Yang. Swings Kyle Brown, Lakota Knuckle, Johanna Moise, and Amy Quanbeck round out the company. Casting is by Tara Rubin Casting.

The production also features scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Justin Townsend, sound design by Peter Hylenski, hair and wig design by Charles J. LaPointe, makeup design by Joe Dulude II, fight direction by Cha Ramos, music supervision by Mary-Mitchell Campbell, music direction by Ben Cohn, orchestrations by Doug Besterman, and dance and incidental music arrangements by Sam Davis. Rachel Sterner is production stage manager.

The film, directed and co-produced by Robert Zemeckis, was noted for its relatively early use of CGI to achieve effects like star Meryl Streep's head turned completely backwards and a gaping hole going through her co-star Goldie Hawn. This musical version has been kicking around since at least 2017, when Kristin Chenoweth was attached to star, then with a separate creative team.

Universal Theatrical Group鈥攐verseen by Jimmy Horowitz and led by Lowe Cunningham鈥攊s producing.
