Watch Jason Mraz Preview His Performance in Broadway鈥檚 Waitress
The singer-songwriter, who rose to stardom with his debut album Waiting for My Rocket to Come, will make his Broadway debut in the Sara Bareilles musical November 3.
Grammy Award-winning musician Jason Mraz, who is set to make his Broadway debut November 3 in the hit Sara Bareilles musical Waitress, gave fans an early preview on October 30 with a special mini-concert featuring the show鈥檚 current star Betsy Wolfe.
The singer-songwriter, who rose to fame with his 2002 debut album Waiting for My Rocket to Come, will take on the role of Dr. Pomatter beginning November 3 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Mraz is set to play a ten-week limited engagement.
Bareilles introduced Mraz and Wolfe, who performed 鈥淚t Only Takes a Taste鈥 and 鈥淏ad Idea鈥 from the score. Mraz then remained on stage to perform one of his own songs, 鈥93 Million Miles,鈥 which he described as a kind of homecoming.

鈥淚 feel completely transformed,鈥 Mraz said of his experience with Waitress. 鈥淚 feel like everything I鈥檝e done in the last 20 years was just buying time until I could get back here and become a part of a show and have a purpose. So, thank you for the invitation Sara.鈥
This is not Mraz鈥檚 first foray into Bareilles鈥 score; he appeared as a guest artist on the composer鈥檚 2015 album What鈥檚 Inside: Songs from Waitress. Both tracks he appears on, 鈥淏ad Idea鈥 and 鈥淵ou Matter to Me,鈥 are performed in the show by Dr. Pomatter and Jenna.
In addition, Bareilles will welcome Mraz to co-host a new edition of the musical鈥檚 鈥淐ast Album Karaoke鈥 series October 30 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Prior to the 7 PM performance, audience members will have the opportunity to sign up for a chance to sing a portion of any song from the score to Waitress on the stage in a post-show event.
Bareilles, who also made her Broadway debut in the musical (succeeding Tony winner as Jenna), returns to emcee the karaoke series, which launched September 14 last year.
