Job Summary/Purpose

The Production Manager, Resident Productions is charged with the oversight of all logistical and strategic aspects of the production department at The Studio Theatre. They coordinate the work of Design and Production personnel to ensure that shows and events produced by the company are kept on time, on budget, made to meet or exceed the standards of quality that our patrons deserve, and have come to expect from SigPro. They also ensure that SigPro鈥檚 mission is upheld and supported by all activities and staff of The Studio Theatre.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • First and foremost, lead with an approach that results in a fair and balanced environment where all can feel brave to be themselves, empowered to do their best work, and equally responsible for the success of our mission.
  • Develop, pitch, and manage the annual and per-production budgets for all projects at The Studio Theatre.
  • With involvement from the Artistic team and other relevant stakeholders, manage the season calendar, including scheduling windows for changeovers, maintenance dark time, rehearsals, designer runs and tech weeks, performance runs, etc.
  • In collaboration with the Artistic team, hire, contract, and supervise the performance of design, technical, and other production staff as needed.
  • Serve as the primary contracts officer for The Studio Theatre鈥檚 productions, including negotiating rates and terms, writing, processing, countersigning, executing, and fulfilling/encorcing the terms of contracts for rights to perform works, employment/contractor agreements with actors and designers (including AEA member contracts and agreements), and the like.
  • Supervise the Literary and Casting Associate as he/she/they schedule and operate season auditions, including scheduling dates, securing venues/spaces, coordinating deadlines and travel, etc.
  • Oversee the production and design review process, working with production department heads to address problems as they arise and ensure open communication between all departments.
  • Be present during tech rehearsals, ensuring safe working practices and keeping the process on schedule.
  • Schedule and/or facilitate concise and effective design, pre-production, production, and 鈥渟olution session鈥� (postmortem) meetings, and work with production department heads and creative teams to ensure all proposed designs are and remain achievable within the available resources and timeline.
  • Monitor daily rehearsal and production reports to identify trending or emerging issues and assist in facilitating their resolution.
  • Work with Artistic Direction and Marketing to approve, develop, and distribute marketing materials in compliance with relevant contracts and agreements for each production, to include web and social content, programs and other print materials, and the like.
  • Advocate for and refuse to sacrifice safe working conditions in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate with other SigPro teams to provide support for Marketing and Development initiatives as they may relate to The Studio Theatre.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Production Manager will provide direct performance, time, and attendance leadership/management/direction to the Technical Director for Resident Productions, Asst. Production Manager for Resident Productions, Company Manager, and Resident Production Stage Manager. They will also be responsible for overseeing contracted designers and making determinations as to whether to engage them again based on their performance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor鈥檚 degree or commensurate experience in Production or Stage Management, Technical Theatre, Stagecraft, or a relevant field.
  • Four or more years鈥� experience leading direct and indirect reports.
  • Two years of accounting, budgeting, and/or bookkeeping experience.
  • A strong working knowledge of regional professional theatre procedures and practices, including AEA contracts and agreements.
  • General ability to read and interpret theatrical drawings; proficiency in AutoCAD or Vectorworks a plus.
  • Strong critical thinking & creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain flexible in one鈥檚 schedule to accommodate the nature of theatre.
  • Prompt and regular attendance is a requirement of this position.
  • Demonstrable experience and ability in conflict management and performance management, including progressive discipline.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a Microsoft 365 ecosystem with supervisors, peers, and internal and external clients.
  • Work with intermediate mathematical concepts.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands

  • A moderate range of physical movement, including prolonged sitting, standing, reaching, twisting and turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
  • Grasping and gripping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in operating office technology equipment, using tools and preparing written material.
  • Working at a height exceeding 50 feet with required fall protection equipment and mitigations (catwalks, personnel/equipment lifts, etc.)
  • Near and far vision in reading, operating equipment, and viewing productions.
  • The need to be able to lift, drag, and/or push materials weighing up to 50 pounds using appropriate tools.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is moderately exposed to moving mechanical parts and hazards. There is a moderate level of noise in the work environment. There are instances when the employee experiences wet or humid conditions, works in high places, experiences fumes 鈥� mists-gases and chemical hazards, runs a risk of electrical shock, vibration and burn hazards. The employee will be exposed to theatrical haze, fog, and strobe effects.
