Description

Seeking South Asian singer-actors for an AEA showcase code workshop and industry presentation of a new musical, Sati: Goddess Incarnate.

Note: We are seeking actors in the New York/Tri State area or those who can be local hires for the duration of our workshop period.

Synopsis: In a village in 1980s India, an 18-year-old girl was burned alive on her husband鈥檚 funeral pyre. Thousands bore witness and the whole town had the same explanation: it was her choice and she was inhabited by a goddess. But what is true and what is a fabrication?

When a low-caste girl named Roop defies expectations, her town believes she is the incarnation of goddess Sati. When her husband dies suddenly, devotion turns to desperation and the town demands a sacrifice. Inspired by true events, Sati: Goddess Incarnate is an investigation of truth, storytelling, and how they shape our reality.

TW/Note: This show deals heavily with gender-based violence, specifically violence against women, caste-motivated violence, mob violence, and caste-based discrimination.

Please see Breakdown below.
