The Alvin Theatre opened in 1927, using an amalgamated name for producers Alex Aaron and Vinton Freely. The Alvin hosted the star-making Broadway debuts of Ethel Merman and Liza Minnelli. In 1983, the theatre opened Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs and renamed the theatre in his honor.
