Jamila Wingot鈥檚 documentary Ailey is now streaming on PBS as part of the network鈥檚 American Masters series after airing January 11 on broadcast television. Check out a clip below from the film, which debuted in theatres last year.
鈥淚鈥檓 a choreographer,鈥� says Ailey (the film utilizes archival recorded audio and video footage of the choreographer as he explains his methods). 鈥淚 create movement and I am searching for truth in movement. I have these creative sides bubbling inside.鈥�
Ailey also features interviews with company dancers and choreographers, who give insight into Ailey鈥檚 process and legacy, including his founding of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Among those included are current AAADT Artistic Director Robert Battle, Rennie Harris, Darrin Ross, Don Martin, Mary Barnett, Linda Kent, George Faison, Judith Jamison, Bill Hammond, Sylvia Waters, Hope Clark, Sarita Allen, Masazumi Chaya, and Bill T. Jones.
