The Broadway Advocacy Coalition, the newly formed organization that has partnered with Columbia Law School to present a monthly series entitled The Invitation, promoting political and social change, meets December 4.
, , Amber Iman, Cameron J. Ross, Britton Smith, Christian Dante White, and Jacquelyn Bell are leading the charge with Broadway Advocacy Coalition following their August 1 Broadway for Black Lives Matter Event.
The meeting of The Invitation, which blends artistry and activism for what they call 鈥渁rtivism,鈥� is titled The American Hangover, and is held at Columbia University鈥檚 Altschul Auditorium.
According to press notes, 鈥淭here鈥檚 a lot at stake with our new administration and it鈥檚 clear there鈥檚 a deep divide of beliefs in the 鈥楿nited鈥� States. The American Hangover will use dialogue and performance to empower and educate the community on how to remain hopeful after the 2016 Presidential Election, and to use art and advocacy鈥攁s well as legal tools and techniques鈥攖o work toward ensuring all people are valued, protected, and can fully participate in our democracy.鈥�
Scheduled to appear are Tony Award winner Ben Vereen, Tony nominee Brandon Victor Dixon, Tony nominee Condola Rashad, Tony-winning composer Jeanine Tesori, LaTrisa Harper, Alexandra Carter (director of the Mediation Program and Clinical Professor of Law at Columbia Law School), Richard Gray (director of Community Organizing and Engagement at the Annenberg Institute for School Reform), Patricia Okonta (Columbia Law School student and co-president of Student Public Interest Network), Susan P. Sturm (Jaffin professor and director of Center for Institutional and Social Change at Columbia Law School), and Kendall Thomas (Nash Professor and director of the Center for the Study of Law and Culture at Columbia Law School).
