The Emmy Award-winning actor plays 26 characters, most of them men, in the Broadway show.

In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Sarah Snook is doing a bit of gender-bending. She plays 26 roles in the upcoming Broadway show, and many of those roles are men.

But though the show doesn't refer to Snook's gender in any overt way, she says the casting was very intentional, telling 半岛体育: "Part of the dramaturgy of this is having a female actress play lots of different characters, most of them male, and how gender can be a performance. The revelation in some ways, for me, is that: You have all these feelings whether you're male or female. You have all these concerns and fears of beauty and age, and how you are perceived by your peers and how you are perceived by society."

The new adaptation of the Oscar Wilde novel of the same name begins performances March 10 at the Music Box Theatre, opening March 27. For Kip Williams, who also wrote this adaptation: "It was paralyzing, it was terrifying, because he's one of the great writers of the past couple of centuries. It's amazing and a testament to the original novel to see audiences respond to it because it's such a modern story."

The work comes to New York following a sold-out run in London's West End in 2024, where Snook earned an Olivier Award for her performance.
