Regional News George Abud's The Ruins Sets World Premiere at Guthrie Theater

The Minnesota theatre will also present Lauren M. Gunderson's new version of Little Women, Eboni Booth's Primary Trust, and more in its upcoming season.

Lempicka actor George Abud's new "play through music" The Ruins will make its world premiere at Guthrie Theater this fall, part of the company's newly announced 2025-2026 season. The production will reactivate the Minnesota theatre's Dowling Studio on Level Nine, with performances running September 19-October 12. Osh Ashruf will direct.

The work sees two young people entering a single room with a stringed instrument, sharing their rage and ecstasy over eight movements as they explore how music can express the language that words fail to convey. Abud has primarily worked as an actor, creating roles in Broadway's The VisitThe Band's Visit, and LempickaThe Ruins has been previously developed at New York Stage and Film.

The season will kick off with a new staging of Amy Herzog's version of Ibsen's A Doll's House, which premiered on Broadway in 2023. Tracy Bridgen will direct the Guthrie production, running September 13-October 12 on the Wurtele Thrust Stage. The same venue will see the return of Guthrie's A Christmas Carol, adapted by Lavina Jadhwani and directed by Addie Gorlin-Han from Joseph Haj's original direction, and running November 8-December 28; a new revival of Shakespeare's Macbeth, running January 31-March 22, 2026; Lauren M. Gunderson's new adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, running April 18-June 21, 2026; and a new staging of No毛l Coward's Private Lives, running July 18-August 23, 2026.

The McGuire Proscenium Stage season will open with Eboni Booth's Pulitzer-winning Primary Trust, running October 11-November 16 and directed by Marshall Jones; followed by Matthew L贸pez's Somewhere, directed by Joseph Haj and running December 13-February 1, 2026; Anthony Shaffer's Sleuth, directed by Kimberly Senior and running March 7-May 10, 2026; and a new staging of Irene Sankoff and David Hein's Come From Away, directed by Kent Gash and running June 6-August 9, 2026.
