Linda Purl is set to star as 16 different characters in Sharon Scott Williams' one-woman show Crazy Mama, A True Story of Love and Madness at Rubicon Theatre Company. Performances will run March 26-April 6, with Anson Williams (Happy Days) directing.
Inspired by Sharon Scott Williams' award-winning memoir, Crazy Mama sees Sharon鈥檚 mother become more delusional and lost in the grip of mental illness, while Sharon, her father, and teenage brother Spikey hope and pray for a cure. As Mama continues to be committed to mental institutions, convinced she鈥檚 working for the FBI, her father blurs his pain with Kentucky bourbon and her brother struggles with his faith.
鈥淟aced with humor and pathos, this powerful play is a testament to the steely resilience of the human heart and the enduring nature of hope," Williams said in a statement. "Crazy Mama is more than a play; it鈥檚 a poetic journey through the labyrinth of love, despair, and redemption that will leave audiences breathless, moved, and profoundly inspired.鈥
"I hope that it will reach audiences on a deeply personal level, leaving them to think about mental illness鈥攁nd their own mothers鈥攁s they never have before,鈥 added Sharon Scott Williams.
