Laura Benanti

Actor Laura Benanti has turned in her cape: She will not return to The CW鈥檚 Supergirl as Alura Zor-El. Benanti had appeared in ten episodes of the superhero series since its premiere in 2015. She will be replaced by Smallville actor Erica Durance.

executive producer Andrew Keisenberg said, 鈥淯nfortunately Laura, who Greg [Berlanti] and I have worked with for years going back to Eli Stone, was unable to continue in the role due to work commitments in [New York].鈥 No official word on what this 鈥渃ommitment鈥 may be, but the New York Post reported last month that Benanti and comedian Amy Schumer may star alongside each other in Steve Martin鈥檚 new play鈥攕aid to be arriving on Broadway in November.

However, Benanti tweeted she is busy embracing new motherhood:

Having won a Tony for her work as Louise in Gypsy and earning a Tony nomination in 2016 as Amalia in the hit revival of She Loves Me, Benanti also starred on Broadway in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, In the Next Room, The Wedding Singer, Into the Woods, Swing!, and The Sound of Music. On television, she also appeared as a singer on Nashville and has done work on the TBS comedy The Detour.
