Regional News Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) Will Make North American Premiere at A.R.T.

The romantic comedy previously enjoy a successful run in London's West End.

American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, under the leadership of Diane Paulus and Kelvin Dinkins, Jr., will produce the North American premiere of the West End hit Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) later this spring.

Running May 20-June 29 at the Loeb Drama Center in Harvard Square, opening night is set for May 30. 

Written by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan, and directed and choreographed by Tim JacksonTwo Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) is a romantic comedy that follows a na茂ve and impossibly upbeat Brit, Dougal, who has just landed in New York for his estranged father鈥檚 second wedding. When Robin, the sister of the bride, picks him up from the airport, they embark on an serendipitous adventure through New York City. 

This production replaces the previously announced production of Passing Strange in the season lineup.

鈥淎ll of us at A.R.T. were deeply disappointed in January when we determined that we would no longer be able to produce Passing Strange due to unexpected costs that exceeded the production鈥檚 original budget,鈥� says Dinkins, Jr. in a statement. 鈥淲e wish the production鈥檚 incredible creative team terrific success moving forward.鈥�

Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) previously played at the Off-West End Kiln Theatre (The Wife of Willesden) and the West End鈥檚 Criterion Theatre and featured scenic and costume design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Jack Knowles, sound design by Tony Gayle, music supervision by Nick Finlow, and orchestrations by Lux Pyramid.
