Video Watch Bernadette Peters Sing From Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends on The Tonight Show

The three-time Tony honoree proves she is still a "Broadway Baby."

Three-time Tony recipient Bernadette Peters, who returns to Broadway later this month in Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends, graced the set of The Tonight Show March 12.

Peters, recently seen in a Los Angeles engagement of Old Friends, reminisced with host Jimmy Fallon about her previous Tonight Show appearances with former host Johnny Carson. Peters recalled Oscar winner Shelley Winters teaching her how to swim during a commercial break and also spoke about Carol Burnett's influence on her early career. Peters, in fact, was the first guest Burnett ever signed for The Carol Burnett Show.

Broadway favorite Peters also treated the audience to a portion of the Sondheim classic "Broadway Baby," one of Peters' signature tunes that she sings in a group arrangement in Old Friends. Watch the complete interview and the performance in the video above.

Peters received both Tony and Drama Desk Awards for her performance in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Song and Dance. She earned her second Tony for her work in Annie Get Your Gun. She also received Tony nominations for her performances in Sam Mendes鈥 critically acclaimed revival of Gypsy, Neil Simon鈥檚 The Goodbye Girl, Stephen Sondheim鈥檚 Pulitzer Prize-winning Sunday in the Park with George, the Jerry Herman-Gower Champion ode to the movies, Mack and Mabel, and the Leonard Bernstein-Comden and Green musical On the Town. She was last on Broadway in a critically acclaimed turn in the title role of Hello, Dolly!

She was also seen on the London stage in 2023 in Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends, which arrives at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre March 25. Peters is also the recipient of the 2012 Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award.

Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends began as a one-night-only concert at London's Sondheim Theatre May 3, 2022, an evening that was filmed and later broadcast on BBC Two. The evening was brought back for a limited West End run at the Gielgud Theatre beginning October 3, 2023, with Peters making her official West End debut. A live album was released of the 2022 concert.

The upcoming Broadway engagement also boasts Tony winners Lea Salonga and Beth Leavel and more. Devised by producer Cameron Mackintosh, the production features musical staging and direction by Matthew Bourne, co-direction by Julia McKenzie, and choreography by Stephen Mear.
