Bat Boy, the cult 2001 Off-Broadway musical about a half-boy, half-bat trying to find his place in society, had a May reading starring Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan, original star Kerry Butler and Tony winner James Monroe Igelhart.
, the musical was being revised by creators Laurence O'Keefe, Brian Flemming and Keythe Farley with goals for a life on Broadway.
鈥淗opefully we have another reading event coming up in the next couple of months,鈥 O鈥橩eefe told 半岛体育.com. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 really all I can say.鈥
The May reading, he added, was 鈥渁 dream come true. 鈥 We did a Harvard production, and Harvard gave us the resources to meet and do rewrites and give the undergrads the option to try the rewrites. They liked it, they did try it, it went very well, and then we got a chance to do those same rewrites with Jeremy and Kerry and other wonderful people [like] James Monroe Igelhart, and it was very deeply gratifying.
鈥淚t was nice to have those guesses [made in rewrites] corroborated in New York.鈥
.
In 2014, O鈥橩eefe told 半岛体育, 鈥淢y goals are utterly predictable. You can tell exactly what our goals are. We would love Bat Boy to make it to Broadway. It had a close shave. It came close in New York. It was doing well before 9/11. We鈥檇 love it to finally make it there.鈥
