Joseph Hayward, who had been serving as the interim producing artistic director of The York Theatre, has now joined the Off-Broadway company permanently as producing artistic director.

Hayward will continue running the theatre company with Debra Walton, who remains interim associate artistic director. Both had been named to interim positions in November 2024 following the abrupt departure of former Artistic Director James Morgan.

York Theatre Board President Jim Kierstead said in a statement, 鈥淥n behalf of the Board of Directors, it gives me great pleasure to announce that Joseph Hayward has been unanimously voted in as the permanent producing artistic director of The York Theatre. "I'm honored to step into the role of producing artistic director at The York鈥攎y artistic home for the past 10 years," added Hayward. 鈥淚 want to thank our exceptional staff, Board, and patrons who make everything we do possible. Together, we will build on our remarkable legacy, champion the next generation of musical theatre creators, and usher in a vibrant new era for The York.
