Drama Desk Winner Michael Urie will play Shakespeare's Richard II for Off-Broadway's Red Bull Theater this fall, in a new solo adaptation by Craig Baldwin.
Urie will kick off the company's 2025-2026 season with the three-performance-only staging, which will also be directed by Baldwin. A part of the company's long-running Revelation Reading series, Urie will step into the role for two performances September 27, and one September 28 at the Sheen Center Loreto Theater.
In this one-man reimagining of Richard II, Shakespeare鈥檚 work is stripped to its core, one actor embodying every ambition, betrayal, and fall from grace. With multimedia intensity, the production transforms Richard's tiny prison cell into an epic battleground of identity and power, where a king鈥檚 divine right crumbles beneath the weight of human frailty.
A long-time artistic associate of Red Bull Theater, Urie has performed in a number of Revelation Readings and productions, including his star turns in The Revenger's Tragedy in 2005, and The Government Inspector in 2017.
