New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse will present a private reading of the new musical Bull Durham May 16, previously announced to open the theatre鈥檚 upcoming season.
The Bull Durham story weaves together baseball and romance as veteran catcher Crash Davis is brought in to mentor rookie pitcher Ebby Calvin "Nuke" Laloosh, while Annie Savoy, the team's muse, must choose between the two men. Initially developed in 2014, this is a reworked adaptation with eyes on Broadway following the numerous developmental productions, including a southern tryout and a run in Durham, North Carolina last year.
The cast for the reading will include Carmen Cusack as Annie Savoy, Nik Walker as Crash Davis, Melvin Abston as Larry, Ashlyn Maddox as Millie, James Moye as Skip, Andrew Poston as Jimmy, Will Savarese as Nuke LaLoosh, and Nick Wyman as Uncle Roy, with Tre鈥� Booker, Daniel DiPinto, Benny Elledge, Diana Huey, Sterling Nelson Jones, Brian Shimasaki Liebson, Jessi Little, Michael Olaribigbe, Carson Hampton Palmer, Valentina Shelton, Dori Waymer, Matt Wiercinski, Casey Wortham, and Blake Zelesnikar.
Directed by Marc Bruni (The Great Gatsby) and adapted by original screenwriter-director Ron Shelton, the musical features music and lyrics by Susan Werner. This production will be choreographed by Joshua Bergasse, with Vadim Feichtner serving as music supervisor. The stage manager will be Matthew Lacey and the casting director is Eric Woodall. The production is produced in association with LKB Productions.
